This is the video page where you will see a visual chronology of The Visual Passion Duo at work. The chronology starts from most recent to, as you scroll down, our earliest beginnings. Enjoy.

The Visual Passion Duo at ClearWater Artists Studios

In conjunction with the exhibition that Mikel co-curated with Carl Heyward of the Global Art Project (GAP), Visual Strategies: A Collaborative Project, Gerard and Mikel painted a large scale 4 panel work on doors donated to them by ClearWater Artists Studios (Sarah and Louise). They painted from 11am to 4pm with music accompaniment and improvisation by Noel Freidline. Here's a video to give you an idea of how it was:

MICA: Then and Now II at The Noyes Museum

Co-Curated by Barry Nemett and Mikel Frank

The Visual Passion Duo had a painting displayed...Tumultuous...and on March 28, 2015 collaborated on a live painting performance accompanied by the fantastic contemporary classical quartet, ETHEL. Click on the YouTube link below and watch this short video by John Thornton.

"2 Questioning People Making Art" by John Thornton

Here is the longer, more in depth version of the same day we painted live at The Noyes Museum to musical accompaniement by ETHEL. John Thornton does an amazing job capturing the event. This video has over 11,000 viewings on YouTube. We hope you enjoy it.

This show at The Noyes Museum was incredible. Over 40 artists/graduates from the undergraduate program at MICA (The Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore) were represented. It is on display through mid May 2015. Barry Nemett and Mikel will be giving a gallery talk on Thursday April 23 at 6:00 pm.

This wonderful video by John Thornton gives insights into the making of the exhibition at The Noyes Museum of Art and talks to a few of the new artists as well as the curators of the exhbition. Thank you John.

First Video: On September 15, 2013, The V. P. Duo painted a large scale multi-panelled work at the KuBe as part of the second half of the first MICA//Then/Now Exhibition, which took place at Ethan Cohen's art enclave in Beacon, NY. It gives insight into our beginnings and other things too. The interview video was shot and edited by John Dean.

Second Video: Mikel and Gerard, The Visual Passion Duo at it again in Beacon, NY. September 15, 2013 in conjunction with and exhibition of alums from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Curated by Barry Nemett and presented at The KuBe an artist enclave owned and operated by Ethan Cohen Fine Arts. It was a great day. If you watch closely you will see a rare cameo appearance of Dylan Frank with camera.

The video below is of Mikel and Gerard, The Visual Passion Duo, painting on June 2, 2013 at The Pierro Gallery as part of the South Orange/Maplewood Artist Studio Tour and Engaging Art Exhibition. The music is written by Dylan Frank and Cory Grindberg, who are Red Velvet Beats and CHAD. It was very hot in the gallery that day and the red explains it. The painting is titled "Naissance" and is on extended loan to The Maplewood Memorial Library.

The video below, shot by Joy Yagid is of Mikel and Gerard talking about the Visual Passion process and more.

The two time lapse videos below are records of two live painting performances. The one on the left (Astonish) took place at GAS Gallery and Studio, Maplewood, NJ in May 2012. There is a slower longer version in real time if you scroll down this page.

The video on the right is a record of "Timultuous" it took place at 1978 Maplewood Arts Center on July 28, 2012 as part of our Visual Passion: On Love 4 day art installation/performance/interactive painting/music event.

Mikel and Gerard pour paint on the Dark Dude...stop action and fairly colorful. It was one of the highlights of the installation: The Visual Passion: On Love at 1978 Maplewood Arts Center in late July 2012

The video below is an interview of The Visual Passion Duo by Nancy Heins Glazer. It was taped in June 2012 at SoMa TV studios in Maplewood, NJ. It's 30 minutes so grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy. It's all about Visual Passion.

This is the slower real time version of us painting "Astonish" at the GAS Gallery and Studio on Ridgewood Road in Maplewood. This took place May 20, 2012. It is a painting/collage on 5, 24"x 80" doors that were hinged together making a self-standing screen and placed at the entrance to Gallery 1978 as people entered the Visual Passion:On Love installation in July 2012.

South Orange/Maplewood Artists Studio Tour 2011

The 2011 SO/MA Artist Studio Tour, shot on location. Artists are asked the question: "What do you think art is?" These are just some of the answers.

This is a video documenting the first large scale collaboration we did at the GAS Gallery and Studio in Maplewood, NJ on April 23, 2011.

This was an all day performance with onlookers where Gerard and Mikel painted a 15 foot by 7.5 foot, 3 panel piece with acrylic latex paint and collage elements. It is called "The Passing" because Gerard and Mikel began their friendship over something they had in common. Namely, the passing of Gerard's brother and the passing of Mikel's father. They both realized they were kindred spirits and decided to try collaborating. This is the result of their first large scale collaboration.
